Viking’s New "ENT" Sprinkler Coating Provides Superior Corrosion Resistance

Friday, December 7, 2012

Hastings, Michigan, USA - Viking Corporation, a global leader in fire protection and life safety systems, has introduced a new corrosion-resistant coating on several of its common commercial sprinklers. These sprinklers with the new “Electroless Nickel PTFE” (ENT) coating were rigorously tested and listed by UL as corrosion-resistant. Following the UL exposure testing, Viking’s ENT coated sprinklers showed little to no evidence of corrosion. The corrosion testing performed by UL is intended to represent the conditions that a sprinkler would see in its lifetime in a corrosive environment.

The new ENT coating provides an enhanced level of protection in any environment where sprinkler corrosion is a concern. This could include applications such as industrial wash down areas, chemical processing facilities, and certain manufacturing environments, as well as exposed installations such as parking garages and balconies, particularly those near the ocean.

PTFE is often better known by the more common brand name, Teflon®, which is a registered trademark of DuPont. The new ENT coating is applied using a non-electric, auto-catalytic process that maximizes the coating’s durability and anti-adhesion properties. The sprinklers are also thoroughly coated including the water way, screw, and pip cap. In addition to its anti-corrosion properties, the ENT finish is also aesthetically pleasing and is suitable for decorative applications.
